Home / Trust & Safety

Safety isn't a feature we added. It's the product.

A peer-to-peer delivery platform lives or dies on one thing: whether both people can trust a stranger. Here is exactly what we do about it — and what we expect from you.

Know who you're dealing with

Government ID + selfie match on every account.

Prove every handover

OTP plus photo at pickup and at delivery.

Never trade cash

Escrow holds funds until delivery is verified.

Nothing illegal, ever

Binding declaration on every single shipment.

Identity

Every account is a verified, real person

Anonymity is what makes peer-to-peer platforms dangerous. On CarryBuddies you cannot post a parcel or accept one until verification is complete — for senders and travellers alike.

  • Mobile & email verificationOTP-confirmed phone number and a confirmed email address on every account.
  • Government photo IDAadhaar, passport, driving licence or voter ID, checked against a live selfie so the document belongs to the person holding it.
  • Bank account verification for travellersPayouts go only to a verified account in the traveller's own name. No third-party settlement.
  • Encrypted and never exposedID numbers and documents are encrypted at rest in restricted-access storage. Other users see only your name, photo, rating and verification badge — never your document.

Two OTPs, two photographs, one unbroken record

A parcel changes hands exactly twice. Both moments are locked behind a code the other party controls and captured as evidence.

At pickup

The sender reads out a 4-digit code. Without it, the traveller cannot mark the parcel collected. The traveller photographs the sealed parcel; the image is timestamped and geotagged. If contents don't match the declaration, the traveller refuses on the spot.

In transit

Trip status updates flow to the sender and receiver. The traveller must keep the parcel in their personal possession — handing it to anyone else is a platform violation, and it will void protection cover once that cover launches.

At delivery

The receiver — not the sender — holds the closing OTP, so a parcel can only be completed with the right person present. A delivery photo is captured, escrow releases, and both parties rate each other.

Why this matters more than tracking A GPS trail tells you where a phone was. An OTP tells you who was standing there and agreed the parcel changed hands. When a dispute lands on our desk, that is the difference between a decision and a guess.

Where your money sits

Booking confirmed
Sender pays CarryBuddies. Traveller sees “payment secured”.
Held through the trip
Funds stay with our regulated payment partner. Neither party can withdraw them.
Delivery verified → released
Traveller's share settles to their verified bank account, usually within 24 hours.
Dispute raised → frozen
Nothing moves until our team reviews the evidence and decides.
Money

Nobody has to trust anybody with cash

The oldest failure mode in peer-to-peer delivery is payment. Pay up front and the sender is exposed; pay on delivery and the traveller is. Escrow removes the question entirely — the traveller knows the money exists, the sender knows it hasn't moved.

  • Payments through regulated partnersCard, UPI and netbanking handled by established Indian payment gateways. We never store your card details.
  • Parcel protection — coming soonCover on top of escrow is still in development. No shipment is covered today and no protection fee is charged. We'll say so here the day it goes live.
  • Escrow is what stands behind a delivery todayUntil protection launches, a dispute freezes the escrowed payment and our review decides where that money goes.
  • No cash between usersAny request to pay a traveller directly, in cash or by transfer, is a red flag. Report it.
Hard limits

What must never enter the network

You confirm this list on every booking. Getting it wrong isn't a policy breach — it can be a criminal offence, and it puts the traveller carrying your parcel at real risk.

Weapons & ammunitionFirearms, parts, ammunition, replicas
Explosives & flammablesFireworks, fuel, gas cylinders, aerosols
Drugs & narcoticsAny controlled substance, in any quantity
Hazardous chemicalsCorrosives, toxics, radioactive material
Counterfeit & stolen goodsFakes, replicas, anything not lawfully yours
Cash, bullion & bearer itemsCurrency, gold, jewellery, negotiable instruments
Live animalsPets, birds, fish, insects — no exceptions
Alcohol & tobaccoRestricted and state-dependent; off-platform
Unaccompanied medicinesPrescription drugs without valid documentation
Misdeclaration ends your account If a parcel's contents don't match the declaration, the traveller can refuse it at pickup and we suspend the sender's account immediately. Where prohibited or illegal items are involved, we permanently ban the account, preserve the full booking and verification record, and cooperate with law-enforcement requests made through lawful process.
For travellers

Six rules that keep you protected

Follow these and the platform can stand behind you. Depart from them and it may not be able to.

1 · Always inspect before sealing

You have an absolute right to see what you're carrying. A sender who refuses is a sender you decline — and report.

2 · Check escrow is funded

Look for the green “payment secured” badge before you travel to the pickup point. No badge, no collection.

3 · Never carry off-platform

No booking record means no escrow, no photo trail and no manifest to show if you're questioned.

4 · Keep it in your own possession

Never hand the parcel to a friend, another traveller or a courier. The chain of custody must stay unbroken.

5 · Meet in public places

Stations, airports, malls, café entrances. Well-lit and busy. Never a private residence you don't know.

6 · Report anything that feels off

Unusual packaging, evasive answers, pressure to skip the OTP. Trust the instinct and use the in-app report button.

Speak up

If something's wrong, tell us immediately

Every shipment screen has a report button. Reports are reviewed by our safety team, not an automated queue, and raising one never counts against you — even if it turns out to be nothing.

  • Report a suspicious parcelContents that don't match, refusal to let you inspect, unusual packaging or weight.
  • Report a userHarassment, pressure to go off-platform, or attempts to skip the OTP handover.
  • Raise a disputeLoss, damage or non-delivery. Raise it before confirming and escrow stays frozen.
In an emergency, call the authorities first If you believe a crime is in progress or anyone is in danger, contact the police on 112 before contacting us. Report it in-app afterwards so we can preserve the record.
